Race Tier List: All Ten Races Ranked - The Veil Wiki
Every race ranked from S to C with ability notes, the day-one rebalance, and how each tier fits popular builds.
Overview
Ten races ship with The Veil, and exactly one of them is legendary. This tier list weighs release-day footage in which every race's effects were read out on camera, the official race system rules, and how each race pairs with the builds players actually run. Two races were rebalanced on launch day itself, so treat anything you read elsewhere with an eye on the patch date.

The release-day tier list video reads out all ten races with their effects on camera, including the two races patched that same day. Watch it for the reasoning, keep this page for the current rankings and the reroll strategy.
The Tier List
Tiers weigh universal damage multipliers, survivability, and how cleanly a race slots into melee, ranged, or cast builds. Sub-tier placement within A through C matters less than the notes column.
The day-one patch added a decompose skill to Mushling and an exert-energy active to Obolite, nudging both up the list without changing the top.
| Race | Tier | Key Effects & Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Whaleborn | S | Legendary. Dusk Weaver cap 4 stacks but 7.5% universal damage and speed per weave (30% total); +10% insanity; night-only skill |
| Obolite | A | Stone form passives plus new exert-energy active: slower, +15% resistance, brief regen debuff afterward |
| Veilborne | A | Community favorite with strong showcased kit; solid across melee and cast builds |
| Hivelin | B | Hive-themed passives, day-dulled kit per its own flavor text; niche night synergy |
| Mushling | B | New decompose skill lifts it from useless to situational after the launch-day patch |
| Skeleton | B | Negative 10% resistances hurt, but unique styling and niche builds compensate |
| Human | B | No gimmick, no weakness; the safe default while you save rerolls |
| Early-game picks | C+ | Races the community ranks below average for progression speed |
| Situationals | C | Outclassed in most builds; reroll when convenient |
| Filler picks | C | Take them for style, not for stats |
Why These Races Lead
The top of the list is decided by one question: does the race multiply everything you do, or only one part of your kit? Universal multipliers age well through patches; niche bonuses need the right build to shine.
Whaleborn's Dusk Weaver trade, fewer stacks for a bigger per-stack payout, nets thirty percent universal damage and speed at full weaves, which outpaces every A-tier defensive bonus in practice.
Whaleborn (S)
The only legendary. Weaves pay 7.5% universal damage and speed each, insanity plus ten percent, and a night skill that transcribes as 'night falora'.
Obolite (A)
Stone form tankiness plus the new exert-energy active: fifteen percent resistance at the cost of movement speed and a short regen debuff.
Veilborne (A)
The race most showcased by creators after launch. A strong, flexible kit that fits the popular builds without demanding a specific playstyle.
Best Race by Situation
"Best" depends on what you are doing this week. The same race that dominates horde nights can feel average in a boss arena or a clan war, so pick by intent rather than by raw tier.
If your intent is long-term, bank rerolls and aim for S or A tier; if it is style, the C tier's Skeleton might be exactly the look you want at a real cost.
- Fast progression: Whaleborn or Obolite, multiplying damage and survivability through the quest grind.
- Beginner comfort: Human or Obolite, where fewer moving parts mean fewer surprises at night.
- Magic and cast builds: Veilborne and Whaleborn, whose speed multipliers make cast weaving forgiving.
- PvP clan wars: Obolite's resistance profile and Whaleborn's speed split the meta.
- Style over stats: Skeleton, at minus ten percent resistances, remains the community's favorite costume.
How the Day-One Patch Changed the List
Two races changed between the tier list being recorded and the game going live. Mushling gained a decompose skill that moved it from nearly useless to situational B tier. Obolite gained an exert-energy active: you become stone-like, slow down, gain fifteen percent resistance, and then suffer reduced regeneration and stamina regeneration for fifteen seconds afterward.
Neither change touched the top. The lesson is structural, though: races here move, and the list is re-verified after every patch. Rerolling into yesterday's meta is the classic reroll trap.
Rerolling Toward the Top
Free rerolls arrive through daily login rewards and codes, so a patient player reaches S tier without spending Robux. Redeem what is active, visit the Stylist in the starter town, and stop as soon as you land an A or better; the marginal gains below the top two tiers rarely justify draining your stock.
Our reroll guide covers the full economy of rerolls, and the codes page lists everything currently redeemable before you roll.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best race in The Veil?
Whaleborn is the only legendary race and sits alone in S tier, thanks to Dusk Weaver weaves granting 7.5% universal damage and speed each, up to 30% total, plus a night-only skill.
How many races are in The Veil?
Ten races shipped at launch. Two of them, Mushling and Obolite, were rebalanced on day one, which the tier list above reflects.
Is Veilborne a good race?
Yes. Veilborne sits in A tier with a flexible kit that creators showcased heavily after launch. It fits melee and cast builds without demanding one specific playstyle.
Do races matter that much?
They matter as multipliers, not miracles. A top race speeds every fight by double digits, but quests, enchanting, and classes gate progression more than race choice does.
Can I play the whole game as Human?
Yes. Human has no weaknesses and no gimmicks, and every quest, boss, and class is reachable. Race choice optimizes the journey rather than unlocking it.
How often does the tier list change?
After each balance patch. The day-one patch already moved two races, so check the date at the top of this page before spending rerolls.
Should I reroll immediately after creating a slot?
Roll once or twice for comfort, then stop. Keep at least two rerolls banked in case a patch rebalances your pick or you pivot builds later.
