Overview

The main questline is The Veil's backbone: it teaches the systems, pays the first silver, and gates your power behind enchanting and the first boss fight. The game never holds your hand, and several steps assume knowledge the tutorial never gives, which is exactly where this walkthrough comes in. Each step below lists what to do, where, and what it costs.

Ancient Bones Main Quest Guide (Video)

One of the most-stuck objectives in the story is the Ancient Bones step. This video shows exactly how to find and finish it in minutes, and the text below explains why it confuses so many runners.

The Questline in Order

Follow these steps in sequence. The questline is forgiving about order in the early beats but strictly gates the boss behind enchanting, so do not skip the gem step.

Costs changed within days of launch, dropping the blacksmith fee from two hundred silver to one hundred. Values below are current to the September patch.

1

Tutorial and Character Setup

Finish the short tutorial, then visit the Stylist to set your race using free rerolls from dailies and codes. Check the tier list first.

2

Kill 30 Monsters

The first lengthy quest asks for thirty kills of any monsters. Daytime spawns near vanish, so enter the maze at night when rates multiply and the quota falls in one session.

3

Pay the Blacksmith

The questline sends you to the blacksmith for a one-hundred-silver payment. One Scorch Basin trinket loop covers it with change.

4

Enchant Your Weapon

Bring a gem, ruby, sapphire, or quartz, not a tome, plus the enchanting fee. Gems come from town trinket spots; our enchant guide details the route.

5

First Boss Fight

The era's first boss waits behind the enchant step with roughly two thousand HP. Ranged poke makes it a clean fight; enchanted melee works with careful weaving.

6

The Ancient Bones Objective

Mid-line, the story asks you to slay Ancient Bones. It is not a boss arena encounter; it is a rare creature that spawns in the deep maze at night. See the dedicated guide below.

💡 Open the map after every step. The maze's landmarks only stick if you look for them deliberately.

Questline Costs and Gates

Every wall in the story is a resource with a number. Audit this table before each session and the questline never stalls.

The trend across patches is downward: the developers trimmed early fees in direct response to launch feedback.

Side Quests Worth Taking

The mainline never asks you to complete side quests, but three of them pay out of proportion to their length. Take them as they cross your path rather than as separate trips.

Side quests are also where offerings accumulate for the class unlocks, so they double as Crusader preparation.

Lost Recipe Book

A short chain from Anelace that pays a free regeneration weapon with ten base damage and seven critical, plus a special ability.

Enchant Quest

Technically mainline, but the gem hunt trips so many players that it earns a dedicated guide with a trinket route.

Ancient Bones

The rare-creature hunt mid-storyline. One spawns most nights; the bestiary confirms what you are looking for.

💡 Verify current numbers against the update log; patches moved several values within days of launch.

Why the Questline Confuses New Runners

The game tells you what to get but rarely where to get it. The thirty-kill quota assumes you know daytime spawn rates collapse; the blacksmith step assumes you can already fund it; the enchant step assumes you know gems differ from tomes. None of this is explained in-game, and all of it is obvious once someone says it.

The second confusion is the Ancient Bones step, which players misread as a boss or a rare drop. It is neither: it is a spawned creature you hunt at night, and the dedicated guide turns it into a five-minute errand.

After the First Boss

Clearing the first boss opens the deeper maze, the era's rare hunts, and class unlocks with real fee tags. Switch your sessions to a weekly rhythm: dailies for rerolls, one or two silver loops, one new region per session.

The natural next targets are the Puppeteer's legendary drops and the class chains. Our progression guide sequences the whole road.

💡 Save your best enchants for the weapon you will actually keep. Enchant fees are real money at this stage.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I finish the kill 30 monsters quest?

Enter the maze at night. Daytime spawn rates drop to near zero, while night multiplies them, and the quota falls in a single evening of horde fighting.

Why won't the blacksmith accept my tome?

The enchant step needs a gem, such as a ruby, sapphire, or quartz, not a tome. Tomes serve equipment elsewhere; gems spawn in town trinket spots like the potion seller's barrels.

How much silver does the blacksmith quest cost?

One hundred silver as of the current patch, halved from two hundred shortly after launch. Keep a buffer for the enchanting fee that follows immediately.

Is Ancient Bones a boss?

No. It is a rare creature that spawns randomly in the deep maze at night, usually at least one per night. The bestiary lists it, and our guide shows the hunt pattern.

What does the first boss drop?

The story's first era boss guards progression rather than legendaries. Its defeat opens the next chapter; the Puppeteer's legendary Dice is where real unique drops begin.

Can I complete the main quest solo?

Yes. Every step through the first boss is soloable with an enchanted weapon and sanity potions. Pickup groups make boss phases faster but are never required.

Do side quests matter?

Three of them pay far beyond their length: the Lost Recipe Book's regeneration weapon, the enchant chain's power gate, and the offerings that side quests feed toward class unlocks.
